STRmix™ Expansion of Biology Services

In July 2023, National Forensic Laboratory Services (NFLS) implemented the use of STRmix™* for all sexual assault cases. Effective February 19th, 2024, the STRmix™ expansion continues with the inclusion of homicide and crimes against person offences. With this expansion, all violent crimes (approximately 65% of all Biology submissions) are being processed by STRmix™. STRmix™ has added significant analytical capability as it aids in the interpretation of complex DNA mixtures (including exhibits or samples with low levels of DNA, degradation, or contributors of three or more persons).
