Avoid processing delays
Laboratory submission delays can occur for a variety of reasons and prevent having results and/or disclosure ready for trial dates. The following will help you avoid the most common delay-causing situations.
Avoid delays when submitting your request to FAC:

Ensure you submit your C-414 and all required forms to the FAC as soon as possible after the date of the offence taking into consideration any submission restrictions (see Home page for link to latest restrictions).​

Ensure the latest version of the C-414 and all required forms are completed properly with all the necessary information.

Respond promptly to follow-up from the FAC representative, if required.

Read all of the instructions and notices carefully on the approval notice (Submission Authorization, Receipt and Information email).

Avoid delays when preparing to ship your exhibits:

Ensure all exhibits are marked with your agency file number and exhibit identifier, as indicated on the C-414.​​

Ensure appropriate packaging is used for each exhibit type.

Refer to the Investigator’s Guide for more information.​

Ensure ONLY authorized exhibits are sent to the laboratory.

Reminder - Write the Laboratory file number from this notice on the C-414 (upper right hand corner) and place it in an envelope that is affixed to the outermost layer of packaging containing your exhibit(s).

Ensure you ship your package to the correct NFLS site indicate on the approval notice.
Avoid delays when exhibits arrive at NFLS:

Respond promptly to follow-up from the laboratory when required.

Keep the FAC advised of Trial dates set or changed or of changing circumstances with your case that may impact laboratory analysis.​

Please advise as soon as possible when analysis is no longer required (charges withdrawn, guilty plea, etc.).
