Exhibit Identifiers and Package Markings
Clearly identified exhibit packages are crucial to maintaining a rigorous chain of custody.
The exhibit identifier and file number noted on the C-414 must be identical to the markings on the corresponding exhibit package.
-
Each exhibit submitted must be identified (marked) with a unique exhibit identifier and file number.
-
Delays occur when exhibits arrive at the laboratory and have incorrect or missing key identifiers.
-
Ensure all markings are legible and permanent.
EXHIBITS FROM MULTIPLE RELATED FILES
Exhibits cataloged under multiple police files but being submitted under a single laboratory file must have their respective file numbers prefixed on the exhibit identifier. This may occur when multiple police files relate to a single occurrence.

Exhibit identifiers are limited to 14 character in the NFLS Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). As such, the form C-414 ) restricts the number of characters to 14 in the "Agency Exhibit Number" field.
Exhibit identifiers on the C-414 must be identical to the package markings.
