Effective October 1, 2021, Trace Evidence Services will stop supplying Gunshot Residue (GSR) kits to RCMP Stores, RCMP Detachments and police agencies. Clients will be responsible to source their own kits from alternate commercial suppliers.

GSR kits that satisfy forensic requirements for quality, format and supply capacity can be purchased directly from suitable alternative suppliers listed below. This list is provided for information purposes only and is not intended as an endorsement by the NFLS.

Trace Evidence Services recommended best practices for the collection of GSR remain unchanged. It includes the procurement of kits containing four adhesive tape sampling stubs to be used to collect samples from the hands and face of a person suspected to have discharged a firearm; one adhesive tape sampling stub for each hand, left and right separately, and two adhesive tape sampling stubs for the face, right and left side separately.
