Firearms Requests Originating from Surrey Municipal Detachment and CFSEU – BC

The CGIIG – BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory commenced offering the following firearms services to the CFSEU – BC and Surrey Municipal Detachment for offenses that occurred on or after January 1, 2021:

  • Legal Classification and Mechanical Assessments of Firearms, Ammunition, Components and Accessories

  • Tool Mark and Physical Match Examinations (related to firearms only)

  • Cartridge Component Comparisons

  • Firearm Probable Make and Type Determinations

  • Serial Number Restorations on Firearms

  • Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS) Examinations

In order to ensure compliance with established laboratory policies and procedures and to align firearm services for CFSEU – BC and Surrey Municipal Detachment, the National Forensic Laboratory Services (NFLS) Forensic Assessment Centre FAC) will only consider requests for firearms analysis under the following conditions:

  • Offense dates prior to January 1, 2021 for all firearms-related examinations*

OR

  • Offense dates after January 1, 2021 accompanied by documented CGIIG – BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory rejection rationale*
