Firearms Requests Originating from Surrey Municipal Detachment and CFSEU – BC

The CGIIG – BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory commenced offering the following firearms services to the CFSEU – BC and Surrey Municipal Detachment for offenses that occurred on or after January 1, 2021:
Legal Classification and Mechanical Assessments of Firearms, Ammunition, Components and Accessories
Tool Mark and Physical Match Examinations (related to firearms only)
Cartridge Component Comparisons
Firearm Probable Make and Type Determinations
Serial Number Restorations on Firearms
Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS) Examinations
In order to ensure compliance with established laboratory policies and procedures and to align firearm services for CFSEU – BC and Surrey Municipal Detachment, the National Forensic Laboratory Services (NFLS) Forensic Assessment Centre FAC) will only consider requests for firearms analysis under the following conditions:
Offense dates prior to January 1, 2021 for all firearms-related examinations*
OR
Offense dates after January 1, 2021 accompanied by documented CGIIG – BC Provincial Forensic Firearms Laboratory rejection rationale*
